#CONNECT

What does it mean to truly connect with another human being? For most of us, connection brings joy, companionship, encouragement, and support. Connection is literally our lifeblood. It keeps us going when things seem insurmountable. Having even one person in your life who tells you that you are loveable, that your life matters, that you matter, can be the difference between life and death.

Connecting with others builds community, and a recognition that we don’t have to go it alone.  It fosters healing and hope. When we listen to each other’s stories, with compassion and without judgment, we communicate something: “I SEE YOU. YOU ARE NOT ALONE.”  Courage. Compassion. Connection. Resilience. These are the tools that lead us into bigger, healthier lives.

The goal of this exhibit is to invite you to ponder the power of connection. Of listening. Of sharing. Of compassion. To inspire you to actively explore yourself and your community, to reach out and be with those around you in a genuine, caring way.

I am with you. You are with me.

#CONNECT is our latest project, an interactive exhibition installed in the Ross Gallery on the campus of Central Piedmont Community College. The main gallery houses large format portraits and audio recordings of our neighbors here in Charlotte. The smaller gallery is home to several interactive projects including a sound booth for story sharing, an interactive connection map, and a journaling/letter writing station. Central Piedmont Community College serves the educational needs of over 70,000 students in the greater Mecklenburg Area. With courses ranging from poetry to automotive repair the college boasts an unbelievably diverse and robust student body, and we are honored to be invited to share our work here.
